DAVIE COUNTY CTE leads the way in North Carolina! 

In 2012-2013 CTE in Davie County met or exceeded the state and regional goals in Academic Attainment for Readling/Language Arts, Mathematics, Technical Attainment, Secondary School Completion, Graduation, Student Placement and Non-Traditional Participation.  

Academic Attainment in Mathematics represented the highest rate of proficiency in the northwest region and 4th highest rate in North Carolina.

Technical Attainment in CTE courses had a 95.5% proficiency rate.  This rate was 15.3% higher than the state goal AND 12.9% higher than state results AND 9.7% higher than the northwest region results.  These rates represent the 6th highest in the state the 3rd highest in the northwest region.

Graduation Rate:  The graduation rate for students who are CTE concentrators is 95% which is 8% higher than the state goal and 1.3% higher than the state results.

Placement:  CTE Concentrators have a clearly defined path for their future.  95.9% of the concentrators were employed, or enrolled in a higher education program.   This rate is the 7th highest placement score in NC.

Career and Technical Education embraces the district mission by providing programs that empower students to be successful citizens, workers, and leaders in a global economy. Career and Technical Education in Davie County is an integral part of the "whole school experience." The educational community in Davie County strives to provide a seamless transition to educational and career goals while inviting and encouraging collaboration through partnerships with the community and beyond, opening the doors to a global perspective.

CTE @ Davie County High School
Partnering with parents and the middle schools, Davie County High School helps students plan their high school coursework. The courses of study give students options for entering the work world and continuing their education.

Rising 9th grade students develop a four-year plan using Career Cruising. Students indicate a course of study that aligns with their post-secondary goals and selects a four credit concentration. The concentrations are based on either pathways or Career Clusters. Pathways are available through Career and Technical Education including Agriculture, Business Information Technology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Technology Engineering Design, and Trade & Industry.Information on individual courses and program areas offered across the state of North Carolina can be located by clicking on the following link:  CTE Essential Standards

Credentials
Career and Technical Education provides opportunities for students to earn credentials. Students who obtain credentials place themselves in a better position to compete at the next level either career or post-secondary education depending on their career/college interest. Building a digital portfolio including credentials is now possible for high school Career and Technical Education students.  In 2013-2014 over 700 credentials (35% of students enrolled) were earned in CTE courses.     

WorkKeys
WorkKeys, a Career Readiness Credential, is administered to seniors identified as CTE concentrators.  The Career Readiness Certificate identifies the student's competency level in math, reading, and locating information.  Local business identify candidates for employment using the competency information.


Microsoft IT Academy
Students enrolled in Microsoft IT Academy: Word, Power Point or Excel and Access will take the Microsoft Office Specialist credentialing exams in Word, Microsoft

AutoDesk
Students enrolled in Davie High's drafting program, will be afforded the opportunity to sit for the certification tests to hold the industry recognized credential in AutoCad, Inventor, Rivit

ServSafe
Recognized in the restaurant industry, ServSafe ensures that students know and understand cleanliness and safety in a kitchen/restaurant setting.

NCCER
Recognized in the construction industry, NCCER assures students know construction related competencies as well as OSHA standards.

ASE Student Certification
Students with a concentration in automotive technologies have an opportunity to take the ASE Student Certification exams. ASE Student Certification is the first step in building a career as a service professional by providing students with their first industry-recognized certification through ASE.

Middle Schools in Davie County 
Students enrolled in Davie County's middle schools explore career interests. Using "Career Cruising" students focus on their strengths and narrow down their career interests. Students will complete a four-year high school plan to help them stay on target to reach their ultimate career choice. Inquiry based learning provides students opportunities to explore career opportunities in Family and Consumer Science, Business and Marketing, and Technology Innovation and Design. Computer applications modules provide techniques and skills that are critical in today's world-class environment.  Students enrolled in Exploring Life Skills have the opportunity to earn credentials in Vault (Personal Finance), Food Handlers Certificate, and Red Cross Babysitting certificate.
